HOW TO TELL IF SOMETHING IS A JUMPSCARE →

wlsterla:

inujake:

Since Halloween is coming up soon, I figured I would try to make a small guide on how to tell if something is a jumpscare video or not. Please keep in mind that this isn’t 100% accurate, and the best thing to do is use your own judgement.

That said, usually a video contains a jumpscare if:

  • It tells you to look closely or to turn the music up, or already has small/poor quality images and quiet music
  • If it’s on Youtube, the comments and ratings will either have poor reactions (ex. “wtf is wrong with you!!! that scared my (insert younger family member here)”) or be disabled.
  • The most recently circulated one (a flashing/screaming image of Jeff the Killer) is a .swf file, so if you’re sent a suspicious link, hover over it. If it ends in .swf, it’s best to just not open it.
  • The most popular jumpscares are “Relaxing Car Ride,” “Scary Maze,” “Subliminal Images and Music,” “Michael Jackson Ghost,” “Kikia,” and “Where’s Waldo?”

Also keep in mind that Youtube now enables automatically-repeating videos, meaning that some screamers may repeat themselves over and over until you close the window (in non-Youtube instances, the site may even make it to where you can’t close the window, meaning that you or someone else has to unplug your computer).

Stay safe, and have a happy Halloween!

*EDIT*

Someone messaged me recently about tinyurls, and how people have been using them to send people jumpscares. If you have a concern regarding a tinyurl, add preview. to the beginning of the url (including the period!) so that it will show you what the link leads to! for example, if the link was “tinyurl.com/6c8nryl”, you would type “preview.tinyurl.com/6c8nryl” (for those who are worried, the url leads to cuteroulette)

Again, stay safe!

bless u

What's the best way for a poor person to avoid buying sweatshop stuff? I hate what happens in sweatshops but at the same time my options are limited due to money and what's being sold in my area :( Do you have any advice?

Thrift is the only thing i can think of

Not buying from sweatshops would do nothing to improve the lives of the workers so it’s probably best to not waste energy on shopping “ethically” and concentrate on organising our own workplaces and communities.

Over the past decade, factory and sweatshop workers across East and South Asia have been militantly organising. Their unions are getting stronger, they are taking direct action against bosses and militias, and they are gaining better wages and working conditions all the time.

To boycott the products they make, when no union or sweatshop workers are calling for a boycott, doesn’t strengthen their struggle, it’ll weaken it.

Nike or Primark, whatever you buy you’re buying from exploited workers. And that includes the first world primark shop workers and delivery people. You cannot boycott capitalism under a globalised capitalist system.

Boycotts lead to less profits lead to already exploited workers being laid off. Unless they call for a boycott (in which they’ve hopefully prepared for the fallout) you’re only added more exploitation and starvation. It’s a fucking terrible tight-rope act that was purposefully designed to weaken solidarity and direct action.

your periodic reminder that there’s no ethical consumerism under capitalism.

It’s important to make friendships that are deeper than gossiping and drinking and smoking and going out.

Make friends who you can go get breakfast with, make friends you can cry with, make friends who support your life goals and believe in you.

And note that folks dont ever take the time to educate themselves. A 2 second Google search would solve problems but folks would rather whinge about how mean the marginalized group is being to them…
